5 Ways To Avoid Bloggers Block

Trust me I used to struggle with bloggers block allot, I would sit here at my computer and stare at the blank “add new post” screen like a zombie, then I discovered a few ways that help me trigger neat brand spanking new topics to write about, now its time to share that with you.

5 Ways To Cure Bloggers Block

1) Addicto Bloggio – http://addictomatic.com - A great way to stimulate ideas for new posts is to use Addictomatic, all you need to do is enter your blog topic/niche into the search bar, it then returns all the latest buzz and news from sites all over the web which relate to your blog topic, this is a great way to find out not only about the latest buzz in your market, but to also find other related blogs/sites that you can leave a comment on.

2) Blog Bond - If you follow and read other related blogs in your niche, then sometimes just reading these can stimulate post ideas for your own blog, and good way to do this is to pick one of their posts that seemed to create allot of comments from people, then put your own twist on it, this is a great way to get trackbacks, plus if you comment on their post, the other readers who click on your comment will be taken back to your blog for additional conversation on the same post topic, and usually end up leaving comments on your opinions too.

3) Tweet What? - http://www.tweetgrid.com/ – You can use this tool similar to Addictomatic in tip #1, but Tweetgrid searches only twitter, the benefit of this is that you get to see what people are talking about in your blogs niche LIVE, right now!, this is great to be the first blog on a niche news story, the other thing you can do with Tweetgrid, is actually refer the people in deep conversation about that subject back to your new blog post, which coincidently is all about the topic they are talking about, you just @ them from tweetgrid and let them know about it. I’ve picked up some great friends on Twitter doing this, who also just happen to be avid blog readers to;).

4) On Good Days - DO you get this too, some days you can write forever, ideas are easy to come by, your fingers just seem to flow on those keys like Mozart on a piano, but then what do you do, you write just one post and stop!, when what you could be doing is drawing more from that creative energy while you have it, by not only writing one post, but two, maybe even three!, most blog platforms like Wordpress allow you to save as many posts as you want without publishing them, doing this allows you to have a backlog of blog posts to keep for those rainy days.

5) Ask PeopleIf you have an email list or a following of Twitter-ers, why not ask them what they want to read about?, ask them if they need advice or have any niche related problems, this can give you a ton of feedback to draw from, take notes here too, don’t miss one of these topics as this is golden information for future posts, the best part about this again is the fact that you can practically assume feedback on your post, just because you know someone has an interest in the blog post you just created.

Hope That Helped

I hoped that helped you out to create ideas for posts in your own blog, blogging block is tough, and their is nothing more frustrating than having no clue as to what to write, I’ve been their too, many times, but the tips above are what I use now to overcome this problem!, well them and a large mug of coffee!!!;))

Very useful information. I'm constantly on the lookout for content and the tools Elliot mentions are quite useful.

Got inspired by #4, 'On Good Days'. Yesterday, my ideas weren't flowing very well so rather than stare at the screen, I took a little mini-retreat to an English Tea House in Parker, Colorado.

Interesting how ideas can come flowing when one chooses to change their venue for a bit of time.

Had scones and the most lucious Ginger Peach tea. Then I grabbed several paper napkins and filled them with blog ideas. Then I used a variation of #5, and I asked 'Lynn' the Tea House owner with the thick English accent, what she would like to read about on blogs and Twitter. She was delighted with my request and gave me lots of topics to discuss.

Why am I saying all this? Because I believe that, in addition to all the valuable electronic/online tools for easing bloggers block, there are also some very, very low-tech ways to engage in real-world experiences...then bring back to our computers to share our discoveries with our beloved cyber people who live on our screens.

One question. In an effort to avoid info overload, which is best, Twhirl, TweetDeck, or TweetGrid?
  • Great comment Jen2ishn!, and a great tip to actually ask people's opinion away from the computer screen!, glad it worked for you;).

I've been using Twhirl about 75% of the time, then I gave TweetDeck a try but did not go too in-depth with it to be honest, plus I love the fact that using Twhirl not only keeps you up to date with Twitter, but also FriendFeed and Seesmic too.

In order to avoid info-overload the best thing to do is turn them off;), but really, maybe give yourself a time limit of about 30mins to keep up to date, check out interesting links, and get back to people that replied to you, then off they go.

Another good way to avoid info overload is to use just plain old twitter.com, no pop ups with sound, it does not refresh unless you tell it too, and you can get to all the information you need without the use of scroll bars pretty much:).

My best tip is when you want to get something done, turn them all off!, so many times Twhirl has popped up a link by someone, and the next thing you know 30 mins have gone by and you did not accomplish a thing!, so I turn them off;).

    Hope that helps some?:)
  • Love the Addictomatic! Thanks for posting that!

I use my Wordpress draft feature to keep track of blog ideas. Anytime I come up with a post idea that I don't have time to deal with right away I just log in, start a new post and just give it a title and perhaps a web link if I need a reminder. This way I can keep a growing list of topics that I can pick up any time I'm in need!
  • Great tip Nikita!, having something to remind you of a post is also a great idea, I cant tell you the amount of times I've written a title down and then completely forgot what it was all about;), so a link to remind yourself is a great idea!.
  • Hey, some good info. on getting the pulse on niche markets.
  • Thanks! I had not even heard of Addictomatic, I will be giving it a try.

Reading other blogs! Yes, many times I have enough of a comment that I can make a whole blog post. That means I get a post and I give the original author a link so, people can see what I am answering. Most bloggers see this as a win-win.

I sometimes go to forums and look in the Q&A section. If I see something that I feel I can answer then I make a post, then go back to the forum and leave a link to my new article (if it only non commercial info).
  • Forums is a great idea also Sherly!. I actually found Addicomatic because someone clicked on my link that must have been displayed on it, its a good idea to trace back those links people use to get to your site, and im glad I did in this case:))
  • Hoo Boy Eliot!

I've been searching for a list like this. Especially like the lead to addictomatic.com

  • Great post! I actually just did a podcast titled "5 Ways to Beat Writer's Block" and it was about the same thing. It can be tough to keep coming up with content but there are ways to make it easier. My favorite thing to do is write a few posts at a time when I am in a writing mood.
  • I've been havign a hard time the past week or so coming up with content, especially with my schedule (I'm an affiliate marketer AND college student).

I tried asking a few of my peers what to blog about and the answers I got were ridiculous (TV shows, celebrities, sports)...and whenever I ask on Twitter no one responds!

    Thanks for the tips!
  • You're welcome Nick glad to help you out.

"An affiliate marketer and college student", do you get time to even eat;))
  • AND a girlfriend!
  • lol!, we'll that makes it even more of a huge thanks for taking the time to leave a comment on my blog;)).
