Hi Lisa:). Three is good, it all depends on your niche and keywords you are targeting, sometimes smaller niches wont have many long tail keywords at all, but bigger targets may have 5+.

Give this a try Lisa http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com , see if that helps you out?. I'll be making a video on keywords very soon to further drill this down, hopefully that will give you a lot more things you can use when researching keywords:).
