Keep Tracking

Still no SALES! Gasp!…. It’s OK though, I’m not into that fast cash method anyway:)

What I am doing however is tracking what I’ve already done so far, I’m hoping that if I keep detailed records of everything that happens in this challenge, I will then be able to spot any patterns that may appear.

With my 20 articles from last week now all live I wanted a way to keep check on stats of each article, so what I decided to do today was create a spreadsheet. Now I don’t have Microsoft Office Excel on this computer, so I thought I’d give the free Google spreadsheet a go.

You can find this neat tool in the Google Docs area.

What I did was lay out a few columns of information for each article I wrote, so I included rows like – Article Name – Main Keyword – Submission Date – Position In Google – Phrase Comp and other sections of info that I thought would be helpful for me to narrow down where I need to focus my attention more.

Here’s what it looks like.

Article Tracking

As you can see I printed it out and have some handwritten notes by the rows I needed to pay attention to. What this has given me is an overview of the most important stats in regard to each article, for instance by doing this I discovered that one of the keywords I am targeting gets a bunch of traffic, but also does not have as much competition as another keyword where I currently rank at #4.

If I see an area like this that I can maybe improve upon, then I will target another couple of articles for related keywords and then link back to the main article to give it a boost.

So far I’ve been having good results using Articles Base, and not as impressive have been the articles I have in Go Articles. I think this may have something to do with the fact that Articles Base appends your article title in its URL, but with Go Articles your article title is basically a number -> 52312, which is great for SEO :-/

If you use this method to track your articles too, make a couple of copies of the spreadsheet, one to write all over, and the other to compare with the next time you check all your stats.

Next post I’ll go over how I will track where a sale comes from – If I make any;)

Could you expand on all the columns in the spreadsheet?
  • Hi Tarik,

Do you mean that you want a detailed description of what each column means? Or do you just want to know what the rest of the columns are?

    Thanks for your comment Tarik.
