6 submissions and countless hours pulling my hair out behind me, I finally came up with a newsworthy press release:). I had more failed submission attempts than an local amateur wrestler, And I still could not find a newsworthy hook.

PRWeb Press Release

Boy it was not an easy task getting accepted into PRWeb, and with 5 previous failed news stories behind me I had to come up with something a lot better than I was already doing.

From my previous attempts the biggest reason for them not being up to par was…

The use of direct address in your release makes it sound like an advertisement.

Your press release appears to be an advertisement or contains too many “hype flags.”

Your press release content appears to lack a news announcement.

And as always with me;)…..

Your press release contains grammatical errors. Please proofread your press release or use a spell check program.

The reason I tried a Press Release in the first place was because I wanted to test it out, and also the fact that PRWeb was running a discount at that time, so I thought “why not go for it?”.

This was my first ever attempt at a press release so I had no idea what to expect, or really what to do, so I just wrote it as if it was an article and that was probably a mistake. Their was just no news hook to it and to be honest it was BORING!, after all who am I?, “Hi im Elliot and I wrote a Twitter guide, oh and so did millions of others!”. See no real news in that!.

I tried to write about The Twitter Technique itself -> “BORING!”

I tried to write about my blog journey -> “BORING!”

I even tried to write a bit about my life and why I stared to blog -> “BORING!”

In fact for that last one the reply I got back from PRWeb was…..

17 Editors had to review your submission, only because of the fact that the 17th person was the only one able to stay awake long enough to read through it. IT SUCKED!

Ok that was a joke but you get the point:).

Hooking In A Kindle

Yesterday while cooking with the TV on in the background, as you do, my ears perked up to a news story about Twitter celebrities all about what celebrities are starting to use it. So I had a general idea that Twitter is current and popular in the news right now, I just needed a way to work my product into a news story.

The other item that I’ve also seen around on the news recently was about the newer Amazon Kindle, and this really started a spark in my mind about what to write. I had a Twitter related product published on the Amazon Kindle!, two current news items rolled into one, if I could not make this newsworthy then I should really just give up right!.

From researching some of the other Twitter related news stories on PRWeb, as well as looking at some of the top news submissions I noticed that the ones doing well have some kind of a personal story behind them. I now realized that I had to write about Twitter, relate it into my Kindle submission and give it some kind of a personal twist to it.

I came up with this….

The reason behind this was the fact that I was up against some pretty big names with Twitter related products on the Kindle, names like Joel Comm!, how was I going to compete with that?.

But I thought that a story about how I created The Twitter Technique sitting in a room with a laptop, with no funds behind me, well thats a lie because at one time I did find a penny on the floor in the house while on the way to make my 12th cup of coffee, but you get my point. But other than that I did it all for free.

The problem would be promoting my book and that’s the part I knew I would lack in, hence the reason for the press release in the first place, im not expecting a call from Oprah, maybe Dr Phil?. I just wanted to get eyes onto my book at the Kindle Store, they don’t even have to buy it but it would be great if they did.

Another thing I wanted to get from a press release was visitors and back links to this blog, yesterday alone I had 60 hits from the release in just a couple of hours, today while writing this I’ve already beat my average daily traffic number easily!, im hoping this continues for a while;)).

My main aim as said in the PRWeb release is to hit #1 for a twitter related search in the kindle store, yesterday I was at #6 today im up to #5, when I first started I was #11, so something seems to be working;).

The top selling Twitter book is at #1,109 in Kindle Store, and im just behind that at #24,194!.:)

See its all about having fun and trying new paths, I have no idea what i’m doing with this or where it will go but i’m learning fast!. As far as im concerned if I make just one sale from it then that’s a great thing, it means that someone read the release, felt sorry that I only have a penny to live off, and decided to download a copy of my book:). Hopefully in return they get a boatload of Twitter followers;)).

To read my release visit Solo Author

It would be great to get your feedback on it. I’ll keep you updated on how this goes over the next few days;)).

After hearing allot of others using press releases, yesterday I gave it a go, I thought about PRWeb.com, but as a newbie to press releases I decided to try out a free press release site first, after typing “free press release” into Google, I came across http://www.free-press-release.com/, yes its free, but, you do not have the opportunity to insert a text link into the release itself, so if you want to be able to insert a text link it will cost you 1 credit($1), but you cannot just pay $1, the lowest you can purchase is 20credits($20), free my a$$!!!.

I researched a couple of other related press releases before I entered mine, the others were about as dry as a camels nose after drinking in the desert, but at least I have something to go on, so I put pen to paper, or in blogging terms, fingers to keys and got working on my first press release.

Earlier that morning before I wrote the release I was watching CNN, and wouldn’t you know the main news was about how the company I work for are laying off 7000 jobs!, oopps, this might be fun going into work tomorrow!, I can only imagine telling my wife that one!, “erm…… well you know about how things get worse before they can get better right?…”, see I got it all planned out;).

But I thought i’d maybe use that for a headline, after all many people are starting to find themselves in the same boat as me, so I came up with this for a headline, “Blogging Away From The Bank”, and this for a short intro…

“How a part time retail worker, with job under threat has turned to blogging to pay some bills, and earn extra income in these tough times. If I can do it, anyone can!.”

Then I follow up with the rest of the story, you can take a look here flopidle release, I just thought it might get more interest if I make it relevant to todays issues, then relate it back to what im trying to do myself by blogging. so far its got 130 views and a few clicks to my site, not a huge amount but its still only one day old so ill give it time to see how it really works out, after all this release cost me 1credit, and I now have another 19 to go, so I have allot of time to improve;).

Other FlopIdle News Updates

Im still waiting for my other articles to be reviewed before I can see how that improves traffic, its taking a long time!, I’ve seen faster donkey races, but what do you expect for free!?, if these articles do well then Ill gladly pay for a quicker submission in the future, “you get what you pay for”, I know, you can say it;).

Oh the last thing before you leave this blog and go on to one of the “pro” blogs;), today I received my Isonic Snapbox HD video camera, god only knows what kind of things im going to bring to this blog with that beast!, maybe I can take it to work tomorrow to film me get my marching orders?, or I can film the moment I tell my wife about the issue, oh and the fact that I actually bought the camera, I just hope it had a built in bleep feature to mask over the words she may use!?.

Wish me luck with this one;))..
