Back at last! First with the bad news, I did not meet my goal for Operation Imac by Sept 1st. So yes I’m still typing this post on my old computer. However I did manage to earn just around $1000 in the past couple of months so it’s not all doom and gloom, more like a starting point to keep on improving.

Realizing that I was not going to make my goal made me rethink what I was doing. When I started this all off I created niche site after niche site spreading my focus over such a large area that it was hard to concentrate on what I needed to be doing.

And in between that I was also creating my own products too, it was mayhem. So what I did was create a masterfile in excel that listed all my current niche sites, within those lists I created a few columns that included information like…

Domain Name

Expires

In Use

Type

Sales

Conversion Rate

Analytics Data

Domain Name: This one is self explanatory.;)

Expires: When does this domain expire? Meaning that if this niche site sucks but yet it has 3 years left to expire, I might consider a new site design/approach or even to try and sell it. But if the domain has a few weeks left, then maybe I’d consider letting it expire.

In Use: Am I currently using this domain as a site? I have this amazing ability to just buy domain names with the idea to start a new site, but never do. Is it only me that does this?

Type: This column is for if I do use this site what type is it? This could be a blog, e-commerce site, or even a sales page if its selling one of my own products.

Sales: Has this site made any sales at all? This could represent some potential in this niche.

Con/Rate: If it has made sales how is it converting? Do I need to get it mass traffic before I even earn a dollar.

Analytics Data: First of all is analytics installed? If not then I need to add it to get any idea of what the site is doing. And second, by looking at the analytics data I would decide what I’d be dealing with if I did go ahead with this site.

Other Info In The Master File

Other information I included in this masterfile were the usernames and passwords. When you have a few sites online you do tend to forget login details sometimes, especially when you don’t use them that much.

Once I had all this info in place I then color filled in the site lines that had made sales already, I would use this as a quick reference to see what ones had potential right away. The domains that were not in use I colored in a darker color, this would represent that they are not even online yet, so either I did something with them, or I looked at the keywords and competition data again to make sure they are worth pursuing.

Now I had all this data in the masterfile it really made me see things I’ve overlooked, it gave me a birds eye view of the performance of my sites, which with just one glance I saw where best to focus my energy. This will now save me a ton of effort on a lost cause, or make me rethink a new plan for the domains/sites that are not performing.

The best thing about this masterfile is that it made me concentrate on a site I didn’t even bother with for weeks, but yet it still made a sale, so I put in more effort over the past few days and yesterday it made another sale! Without me taking this step back that sale may have never happened.

If only I started this the same time I started Operation Imac, who knows I may have been typing this on one;) I do recommend a masterfile to anyone with a few sites, you don’t have to have excel either, even notepad will do the trick. You could also try the FREE Google Spreadsheet.

Whatever you use give one a try, it does not take long and could give you an idea of where to best focus your energy too. Good Luck.

$21.21

Last weeks total was at $20 for the week, and I mentioned that Kindle sales for The Twitter Technique were down maybe because of the lack of Twitter talk on the news. So I decided to take a look at the sales copy on the product page to maybe make adjustments, its when I navigated to my books amazon page that I noticed…..

The price on the Kindle edition was raised from $15 to $27!!!, ARRGGHHH!!. Who could have done such a thing without asking me?, surely this is a conspiracy that only the x-files team can solve, but instead what actually caused the price increase was me being a dumb-a$$ again.

When I actually submitted the Kindle edition of the ebook, for some reason I listed it at $27 which was the same price as the downloaded version. When submitting a book on the Kindle you can enter any price you want, but depending on guideline’s set by Amazon they can adjust it by what they think is more suitable for size/content.

Amazon set the price at $15, but still displayed the “list price” as $27 on the product page. This was great for me because every person browsing to my page would see that they got a huge discount form $27 to $15!, bargain.

It was last week that that $27 list price became the real price and it killed me!, obviously with my competition pricing Twitter books at $10-15, my $27 price point was going to get less buyers than an ice cream truck outside an igloo!.

So all I really had to do was adjust the price back right?, well yes and no. Because The Twitter Technique was selling really well at $15, its Amazon Sales Rank(which is a ranking system Amazon use to track how well books are doing in the listings) was flying high. At its best the sales rank was at 7k out of hundreds of thousands of books, its now at just over 100,000. OUCH.

Another thing that dropped because of the lack of sales was its listing for a “twitter” related search in the Kindle store, The Twitter Technique was at number 1 position but has now dropped down to number 3, so their is work to be done.

The good thing is I now know what it takes to get it back up in the sales ranking, so with all things said(or typed), im not too worried about it.

Hardcover To The Rescue

What saved me last week from this Imac total being ZERO, was The Twitter Technique hard cover version. I started to sell my ebook as a real hardcover printed edition, and it was a few sales from this that brought last weeks Imac total to $21.21.

Hopefully this will continue selling well as a hardcover, and my Kindle sales will come back to life too?

What I Learned From Last Week

Track Track Track. I really should check product pages everyday just in case this happens again, rather than just blame other circumstances right off the bat. Had I done this I could have made the changes in a matter of hours rather than days.

But its another important lesson learned for me, as I wrote in a previous post Making Mistakes are part of what I do, and this one stands as another one in the bag that I wont repeat again(hopefully).

I’m now off to check product pages and buy ice cream from outside my igloo;).

WHERE IM AT:::

My last Operation Imac was posted on 13th May, which was just before all the trouble I had with the virus. But now its all cleaned and looking good I can now update my progress with my target of $3000 to buy an Apple Imac.

For those of you that don’t know about this project I’ll fill you in a little about it. I basically gave my self until Sept ’09 to raise $3000 for an Imac, I worked out that I needed to make about $24 a day until that time to reach that target. Now I blog about my progress on the path to use my affiliate/marketing attempts to reach my goal.

You can read about this from the start here -> http://www.flopidle.com/internet-marketing-blog/operation-apple-imac .

Where I Am At?.

At the time of my last post I was at $370 with $2630 left to go. In the last 16 days from various sales from Clickbank and The Twitter Technique I’ve managed to hit $135. Unfortunately that works out to under $9 a day missing the daily goal by $15.

This is actually good news because I’ve not been able to concentrate on this as much as I wanted because of the recent virus, and also the fact that im working on a couple of new books that should be ready pretty soon I hope. So with all this in mind that $135 was a nice sum to receive, especially considering that I hardly had to work to get it. Ahhh passive income rocks!!.

Anyway here is the tally so far ->

Imac Total So Far (31days): $505

To Go: $2,495
